Cherry Hill Council said good-bye to two prominent members of the township during their meeting on Monday night.
Retiring police chief Rick DelCampo and outgoing councilwoman Jacquelene Silver were honored with proclamations for their hard work and efforts in Cherry Hill Township.
DelCampo, who will be retiring as of Dec. 31, was spoken of as a very hard working and caring man by all of the Council members and Mayor Chuck Cahn. Each one of them expressed their gratitude during their comments prior to the end of the meeting.
“I’m extremely proud, as Mayor, to stand by your side each day and to stand by the side of these police officers that you represent,” Cahn said prior to presenting the proclamation to DelCampo.
DelCampo’s speech to his family, friends and fellow police officers in attendance was very honest and heartfelt, exemplifying the positive qualities that many people in attendance on Monday spoke about.
“From the early beginnings, I always knew I wanted to be a cop,” an emotional DelCampo said. “I was just fortunate I found the career I was passionate about. And I loved going to work, every single day. Many people don’t have that luxury.”
DelCampo was credited with taking the Cherry Hill Police Department several steps forward since being named police chief in May of 2010. Earlier on Monday, William Monaghan was named as DelCampo’s replacement.
“I’m extremely proud of the changes we have made in the last three and a half years,” DelCampo said. “I am sure Chief Monaghan will continue moving forward with even higher goals.”
In a separate ceremony, Silver was honored by members of Council. Silver’s term ends on Dec. 31. She did not run for re-election in November. Her seat will be taken over by newly elected Carole Roskoph.
“I was quite taken when I was offered the position to run for Council,” Silver said. “I loved the position, but want to put my speaking days in public a little bit behind me and want to do more speaking in the classroom.”
Like with DelCampo, each of the members of Council personally congratulated Silver.
“It has been a true honor to work with Councilwoman Silver,” Councilwoman Susan Shin Angulo said. “She will be missed.”
In Other News:
• Council got a jump start on the new year by passing a series of resolutions that appointed township professionals for 2014.
Council president David Fleisher credited the mayor and his staff for getting the appointments done quickly.
“The Mayor and the staff have been very proactive in making professional appointments that don’t usually make it on until the first or second week in January,” he said.
• Three bond ordinances that were introduced by Council at the Nov. 25 meeting were passed on second reading on Monday night. The bonds were budgeted for by the township and will pay for various capital projects.
• The final Cherry Hill Council meeting in 2013 will be on Dec. 30 at 9 a.m. The reorganization meeting for 2014 will be held on Jan. 2.
