Three Voorhees parks will be getting a slight makeover after the township received a grant.
Acceptance of a Camden County Recreation Facility Enhancement Grant for $75,000 was approved by the township committee at its Nov. 25 meeting.
Mayor Michael Mignogna said the grant would go to fund multiple projects in three parks.
One project repave both the tennis and basketball courts at the Maiaroto Sports Complex on Echelon Road, while another will repave the walking path through Kirkwood Sports Complex on Laurel Oak Road behind the Hampton Inn.
In addition to a walking path, Kirkwood Sports Complex is also home to the annual Memorial Day Soccer Tournament, as well as a softball field, a playground and two bocce ball courts. A new walking path will be Kirkwood Sports Complex’s second upgrade, after new park lighting was installed earlier in the year through a state grant.
“We’re really proud of our parks,” Mignogna said.
The Rabinowitz Baseball Complex on Kresson Road will see an upgrade with a new playground area.
Mignogna said with the playground being close to the baseball fields, parents can still view the games from within the playground.
According to township administrator Larry Spellman, the playground will consist of a swing set, slides and a climb area for children, which will also be surrounded by a three-foot fence.
In addition, Spellman said the playground would be ADA compliant.
Spellman said the playground at Rabinowitz is expected to be completed before the start of baseball season.
“That should go in before the end of the year,” Spellman said.
Spellman said the two paving projects at the Maiaroto Sports Complex and Kirkwood Sports Complex would have to wait until spring of next year, to ensure the weather would not interfere.
Spellman added that the grant would be split evenly for all three projects, with $25,000 being appropriated to each park.
