Maids of Cadiz release first record

Medford’s Maids of Cadiz are happy to announce the release of their first record. The five-song EP, “Traffic,” is the self-released on the band’s Bandcamp page through a “pay what you want” system.

“These are mostly songs we’ve been playing together for the past few years without an audience. I’m really happy to finally give people a chance to listen to them,” said Justin Bennie, co-founder of the group.

The sound of the new record by the Maids of Cadiz has been compared to that of Ben Folds Five and Steely Dan.

“We all come from different backgrounds and have different influences that I think come together to make something interesting,” Bennie said.

Fellow Shawnee High School students Bennie, Reed Bodenstein, Garrett White, and Steve Ippolito founded the Maids of Cadiz.

Ippolito left the band in 2012 to attend school in Pittsburgh, after which, Ian White stepped in on lead guitar. From there, the band’s sound began to grow into its own. In June, the band began recording its EP using equipment borrowed from local musician Jackson Wolf.

“Recording and producing everything ourselves was tough,” Bodenstein said. “There was a lot of learning as we went, but I really think we managed to capture the sound we want from the band.”

The record took a month to produce. The band is currently looking to play more shows to promote their release.

“At this point, playing gigs is our top priority. We’re in a good situation, because we only have one release out, but have a back catalogue of many songs that we’re excited to play and develop,” Bennie said.

“Traffic” by the Maids of Cadiz can be found on their BandCamp page at maidsofcadiz.bandcamp. com, or by going to the Facebook at facebook.com/maidsofcadiz.

It can be downloaded for free or through donation.

For booking information, contact the band through Facebook, or email Bennie at [email protected].
