Annual Juried Poetry Contest open to county residents

The Medford Arts Center announces its sixth Annual Juried Poetry Contest — an event open to Burlington County residents.
This annual contest was established to give recognition to the literary arts and local poets.

Entering poets must be a resident of Burlington County and at least 18 years of age.

Any form of poetry or subject is acceptable.

All submitted work must be original as well as the work of the poet entering the contest and not previously published.

The contest guidelines and applications are available on the Medford Arts Center website, www.medfordartscenter.org. They can also be picked up in person at the Medford Arts Center, 18 N. Main St. during weekend gallery hours or at the Medford Township Municipal Offices during business hours, 17 N. Main St.

The contest opens on Sept. 5 and closes at the end of the business day on Oct. 31. Please note no email submissions will be accepted.

The completed application can be dropped off at the Township Municipal Office or postmarked no later than Oct. 31 to: Medford Township, 17 N. Main St., Medford N.J. 08055.

Please mark the envelope Poetry Contest. All entries must be typed without the author’s name appearing on the hardcopy since this is a blind judging. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top three poems. A reception will be held at the MAC on Dec. 4 for all 10 finalists who will be invited to share their work.

Kendell Bell, the winner of last year’s contest, will be this year’s judge. Bell’s poetry has been widely published in print and online, most recently in Rose Red Review and work to a calm.

He was nominated for Sundress Publications’ Best of the Net collection in 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2012. He is the author of 14 chapbooks. His current chapbook is “Blair’s Echo.”

He is the founder and co-editor of the online journal Chantarelle’s Notebook and the publisher/editor of Maverick Duck Press. His website is www.kendallabell.com and his chapbooks are available through www.maverickduckpress.com. He lives in Riverside.
