Mayor’s Column: VBA in its 24th year

In August of 1989 a small group of Voorhees business owners formed a local club to promote business in the township. The Voorhees Business Association was born.

The mission of the VBA is to provide a forum for businesspersons and businesses in the area to meet, share and discuss concerns and interests of a civic, commercial, cultural or economic nature. The VBA also seeks to facilitate a dialogue and channel the energies and resources of the business community and elected officials into improving Voorhees Township.

The VBA has also partnered with our Economic Development Committee to form the Voorhees Business Retention Task Force to help our local businesses continue to thrive.

VBA members have worked tirelessly for our community. In January, they held “Bowling for the Arts,” drawing more than 200 people to raise money for improvements at the Voorhees Middle School Theater.

Other VBA activities include contributing money to Eastern High School’s Project Graduation and the Voorhees Police Holiday Fund, providing two scholarships to Eastern graduating seniors, and being a sponsor of such events as “Strike Out Kids’ Cancer Community Fair” and the Pumpkin Patch at our Annual Halloween in the Park. The VBA is also a sponsor of our annual Municipal Calendar and has provided holiday gifts to children at the Voorhees Pediatric Facility.

Members of the VBA have volunteered as judges for Eastern’s DECA Marketing Competition and as coaches for Eastern’s Job Program. Young entrepreneurs and professionals experience life in the real world through the VBA’s “Take a Student to Work” Program.

The VBA has its luncheon meeting on the third Wednesday of each month.

The VBA website includes member information, a member directory, a member application, upcoming events, links and contact information. Visit the website at www.voorheesbusinessassociation.com

She was also involved with the Interact Club at Eastern. On June 9, 2012, Ashley passed away at the tender age of 20 after being involved in an ATV accident. The foundation will carry on Ashley’s spirit and will foster volunteerism and involvement in the Voorhees Community. Tickets are $30 per person or $50 per couple. For more information or to buy tickets in advance, contact Bob Paul at (609) 707–2162 or Brittney Fallstick at (856) 906–6984.
