Freeholder Board opening new welcome center

The Freeholder Board will open a new welcome center at Wiggins Park Marina on the Camden waterfront. The 822-square-foot newly constructed building will also provide added amenities for boaters that dock at the marina. This new investment into a well used part of the Camden County Parks System will be an asset for the community.

“The new building allows us to offer boaters services that enhance their stay at the marina including restrooms with showers, laundry facilities and a kitchenette,” said Freeholder Jeffrey Nash, liaison to the Parks Department. “An attached patio with new tables, chairs and barbeque grills will offer boaters a place to enjoy a meal with the river and city skyline as a backdrop.”

The building features sustainable construction elements including waterless toilets, hand dryers and natural ventilation design in the restroom portion of the structure, which is fully ADA compliant.

The opening of the new welcome center coincides with National Marina Day, a collaborative effort by marina and yacht clubs all along the Delaware River on June 8,” Nash said.

Wiggins Park Marina is a 50-slip deep water marina with a twelve foot controlling depth at mean low tide. It can accommodate boats up to 30 feet long daily, weekly, monthly or seasonally from April to October. Its unique circular shape takes full advantage of its scenic location on the Delaware River across from Philadelphia’s historic Penn’s Landing,

The marina is located within the 51 acre Ulysses S. Wiggins Waterfront Park. The park’s brick promenade takes visitors past some of Camden’s best known attractions such as the Battleship New Jersey, the Susquehanna Bank Center and the Adventure Aquarium. The park is adjacent to Campbell’s Stadium, home to the Camden RiverSharks minor league baseball team, and the Camden Children’s Garden, four acres of interactive educational exhibits themed as a whimsical horticultural wonderland.

The Wiggins Park Marina welcome center will be open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. To reserve a slip, call (856) 216–2151.
