BCC to offer support group for individuals with hearing loss

Burlington County College’s Career Success Solutions for Deaf and Hard of Hearing will host an open house at BCC’s Briggs Road Center on Tuesday, March 12 to kick-off free monthly support group meetings for individuals in Burlington and Camden Counties who have some degree of hearing loss and are currently working, job-seeking, volunteering or students. Career Success Solutions provides comprehensive employment services to individuals with hearing loss in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem Counties.

At the open house, individuals with hearing loss and their guests will meet with local organizations and agencies that specialize in assisting those with hearing loss. Information on available support systems and coping strategies will also be shared through monthly meetings. Support group meetings will address how to overcome challenges such as understanding someone while talking on the phone, following a conversation when several people are talking, hearing alarms, and networking in a noisy environment.

Captioning will be provided courtesy of the New Jersey Division of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

Assistive listening and sign language interpreting will be provided by CSS.

The open house will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in room 110 at BCC’s Briggs Road Center, which is located on the Mount Laurel campus at 1000 Briggs Rd, Suite 120.

The yearly calendar of monthly support group meetings will be disseminated to attendees. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Patricia McHugh at [email protected] or (609) 534–2611 (VP) or
