The Cherry Hill Fire Department responded to a 911 call for a house fire in the 100 block of Cooper Avenue in the Erlton section of the Township on Thursday morning.

Four Engines and two Ladders responded to the scene where firefighters arrived to find fire showing from the front and side windows of a second floor bedroom.

The fire was also extending to the attic area of the home.

Firefighters advanced hoselines to the interior of the home to extinguish the fire and check for any occupants.

The firefighter’s efforts were challenged by the collapse of an interior stairwell and the roof, causing the firefighters to extinguish the balance of fire from the exterior. Firefighters had to also deal with extreme cold temperatures and wind chill.

The residents of the home were at work at the time of the fire. The family dog was removed unhurt.

The fire is under investigation by the Cherry Hill Fire Department Fire Marshal.
