MFS welcomes two 2013 artists-in-residence
Moorestown Friends School (MFS) welcomes Meghan Malloy and Noah Herman as the 2013 Artists-in-Residence from Tuesday, Jan. 22 to Friday, Feb. 1. The MFS Artist-in-Residence Program provides annual residencies for established musicians, visual artists and actors to a spend one week or more at MFS.
Malloy and Herman will work with Upper School students on assigned theatrical scenes with particular attention given to developing a character for performance. They will engage Middle School students in an “audition workshop” in which they are taken through the selection, preparation, and preliminary performance of a monologue/scene. For lower school students, they will provide introductory theatre games and exercises.
Malloy is a Philadelphia-based actress and teaching artist, currently in her eighth year with the Walnut Street Theatre. Through the Walnut, she created a middle school anti-bullying theatre curriculum. Malloy has taught everything from Shakespeare to musical theatre with students ranging from kindergarten into their mid-70s. Recent acting credits include “The Exit Interview” with InterAct Theatre Company, Karen in “August: Osage County” with the Pittsburgh Playhouse, Jean in “Dead Man’s Cell Phone” with the Actors Theatre of Phoenix and “Last Gas” with Penobscot Theatre Company in Maine. Malloy has also worked with the Wilma (Barrymore Nomination, “My Children! My Africa!”), Walnut, Fulton Opera House, Pittsburgh Irish & Classical, 11th Hour, Theatre Horizon, Montgomery and Seventh Sister theatre companies. Meghan holds a BFA in acting from Point Park Conservatory and has been a proud member of the Actors Equity Association for over 10 years.
Herman has been a teaching artist with the Walnut Street Theatre since his graduation from Muhlenberg College in 2006. As a director his local credits include “Noises Off,” “The Fat Cat Killers,” “Lost in Yonkers,” “Recent Tragic Events,” and an adaptation of “The Tempest” which was a Walnut Street Theatre Camp production in 2012. Noah is the education director for ComedySportz, Philadelphia’s longest running improv show, where he also performs. He also serves as the Assistant to the Artistic Director for 1812 Productions, a local all-comedy theatre company. Next up, Noah will be directing “The Diary of a Worm,” “Spider and Fly” at the Walnut Street Theater, and “Picasso” at the Lapin Agile at The College of New Jersey.
The MFS Artist-in-Residence Program is funded by an endowment established with the proceeds of the 1983 Parent Council Auction.
