Local bakers design Tricentennial birthday cake for First Night

First Night Haddonfield 2013 has set the stage for another evening of memorable entertainment this New Year’s Eve with its 15th annual celebration of the arts.

Four popular tribute bands and other high profile performers will make first night of the New Year the best night of the year with its “Tribute” theme.

New this year will be custom “Tricentennial birthday cake” for the borough of Haddonfield that will be celebrating its 300th year all through the year.

Baked and designed by sisters Toni and Chrissy Walton of Sweet T’s Bakeshop, 14 Kings Court, Haddonfield, the one-of-a-kind confection will be decorated with scenes from Haddonfield’s 300-year history. 1700s will be depicted with founder Elizabeth Haddon, the Indian King Tavern, Lenni Lenape Indians and Quakers; the 1800s tier will have a Victorian house, the discovery of the Hadrosaurus dinosaur and a steam engine; the 1900s layer will depict the high school and bulldog mascot. The top tier will be the town’s clock.

This cake will be displayed by the downtown stage on Kings Highway at Tanner Street from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Cake slices will be served outside Sweet T’s at 10 p.m. at 14 Kings Court.

The cake cutting is just one part of the magnificent night of entertainment and arts for First Night Haddonfield. Tribute performers, magicians, dancing, comedians and singers are all part of the night’s fun. In all, more than 40 performances will take place in 20 venues in Haddonfield from 6 p.m. to midnight on New Year’s Eve including a family countdown with fireworks at the Town Clock at 9 p.m.

First Night Haddonfield is designed to entertain every member of your family, from young to old in an alcohol-free celebration of the arts.
