Following in the police department’s footsteps, the Mt. Laurel Township website was recently completely revamped with a more user-friendly design.
The new website, brighter with hues of gold and beige, will be easier for township employees to update, thus allowing information to be presented to the public earlier, said Township Manager Maureen Mitchell.
The Ready or Not link has new features, Mitchell added.

Garden awards
Mitchell reported that the township recently received a Community Gardening Award for the Community Garden.
The Mt. Laurel Garden Club was also recognized for the Veteran’s Memorial at Laurel Acres Park.
According to Club President Cathy Hepp, the garden club was instrumental in having the old memorial replaced with the current wall.
For the past several years, club members have been in charge of plantings, weeding and the overall maintenance of the gardens, Hepp said.
Volunteers plant mums in the fall and annuals in the spring, she said.
“It’s just an ongoing project with us,” said Hepp. “We’re a busy club of volunteers.”
The group was one of five clubs in New Jersey who were recognized by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society this fall.
“We’re very excited to get that,” she said.
Currently, the club is involved in four different decorating projects, including preparations for the upcoming Holiday Open House at the Alice Paul Institute and giving at least 25 fresh wreaths to township facilities such as the library and senior center.

Trash collection
Mt. Laurel has joined with Willingboro “to solicit prices for trash collection” in a new cooperative pricing agreement approved at the Monday, Nov. 19 council meeting, said Mitchell.
In the Monday, Nov. 12 work session meeting, Mitchell and council discussed options for outsourcing trash collection in the township.
At that time, Mitchell said the hope would be to find a better price for trash collection when going out to bid with Willingboro.
If the price is right, she said, “We would then enter into a contract in the spring.”
Willingboro was chosen due to its similarity in size to Mt. Laurel, she said, and Cherry Hill and Gloucester Township recently went into a cooperative pricing agreement together and received great prices.
MUA re-appointment
Elwood Knight was re-appointed to the Mt. Laurel Municipal Utilities Authority at the meeting. He will serve a five year term, said Mitchell.

The next Mt. Laurel council meeting is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the municipal courtroom.
