Area malls to open extra early on Black Friday

Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust is opening the doors to nearly all of its malls at midnight on Black Friday, Nov. 23, including seven of its shopping centers in Greater Philadelphia — Exton Square Mall, Plymouth Meeting Mall, Springfield Mall and Willow Grove Park in Pennsylvania and Cherry Hill Mall, Cumberland Mall and Moorestown Mall in New Jersey. Additionally, Voorhees Town Center will open at 5 a.m. and The Gallery at Market East will open at 8 a.m.

The extra-early openings allow local shoppers access to the added-value sales many retailers are offering exclusively during the overnight hours.

“In addition to the midnight openings and exclusive discounts, there will be refreshments, entertainment and giveaways at select malls, creating enjoyable, convenient experiences for the official kick-off of the holiday shopping season,” said Debi Gilson, PREIT regional marketing director.

Individual store opening times and notable Black Friday offers will be posted on the mall websites and social media sites leading up to Thanksgiving and on Black Friday. A listing of special offers will also be available on the PREIT Malls app, available for free via iTunes or Google Play.

Starting on Nov. 23 and throughout the holiday season, shoppers will be able to create and share personalized holiday e-cards and enter the malls’ $2,000 Shopping Spree Sweepstakes.

Also, the malls are offering a variety of promotions to enhance the shopping experience that may include: extended holiday shopping hours; Santa photos, including special sessions with pets; a charitable gift wrapping service; a giving tree; festive entertainment and American Express Mall Gift Cards for personal and business gift giving.

Additionally, the Philadelphia-area malls are supporting their respective communities through the International Council of Shopping Center’s (ICSC) Shop Local campaign, which encourages consumers to shop in the region to help strengthen its economic base. Plus, select mall retailers are partaking in Small Business Saturday on Nov. 24, a day dedicated to supporting small businesses nationwide.
