Moorestown: Mayor gives update on Hurricane Sandy

The damage of Hurricane Sandy is over, and township representatives are continually assessing the situation.

Mayor John Button gave a brief update regarding damage throughout the township. A majority of residence experienced power loss, while downed trees add to the damage in Moorestown, Button said.

The township will avoid handling downed wires.

“The timetable for the return of power is in the hands of PSE&G, who receives direction, as I understand it, from the Burlington County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) headquarters during a crisis like this one,” Button said via email.

According to Button, Moorestown’s public works emergency management personnel have been working for the past two days to ensure safety in the town and to make sure the roads are cleared as much as possible.

Button said the enormous task of cleaning up the damage in Moorestown needs a plan including more resources then what is currently on hand.

“Close communication continues between police, our township administrator, public works and our Board of Education and School administration,” said Button. “I remain confident that we will resolve these difficult issues as expediently and responsibly as possible and want to assure our residents that safety will continue to be a top priority.”
