Below is a brief preliminary update regarding Moorestown. Stay tuned for more information as more reports are released.
- All township offices and the library are closed today, Tuesday, Oct. 30.
- Trash pick-up is suspended for the week, and trick-or-treating is tentatively scheduled for Friday, Nov. 1. According to the township’s website, a final trick-or-treating reschedule date will be made on Wednesday, Oct. 31.
- The Zoning Board Adjustment meeting for today, has been cancelled.
- The Township Council meeting has been postponed until Thursday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. Meeting location and agenda are the same.
Township released an announcement regarding resident safety and road closures due to downed trees. Township manager Scott Carew said the township will spend the next 42 to 78 hours dealing with public safety issues, assessing damage and developing a plan. Carew had nothing else to report at the time.
The following roads were reported closed due to downed trees and power lines. Future updates regrading roads around town will be posted. Residents are asked to report downed power lines or trees by contact PSE&G at (800) 436–7734. To report blocked roadways by trees or debris, call the Moorestown Police Department at (856) 234–8300.
Creek Road between Borton Landing and Centerton Road, Kenilworth Avenue between Fairview and Locust, Borton Landing between Westfield and Salem Crossing, Mount Laurel Road. as it crosses Rt. 38 — you must go west on Rt. 38 from southbound or east from northbound Mt. Laurel Road, Emerson Rd. between Lenola and Garfield, North Stanwick Road between Bridgeboro and Westover in front of the William Allen Middle School and Centerton Road between Country Club and Laurel Creek Country Club.
Outside of Moorestown,approximately 50 roads are closed throughout Burlington County. County officials are focusing on major roads such as County Road 541 and the bypass, Rancocas Road, South Pemberton Road, other county roads that feed into the major highways, as well as Magnolia Road in Pemberton, a Burlington County news release said.
More than 75,000 outages were reported in Burlington County, the release said.
County representatives are currently assisting Atlantic and Ocean counties, the release said.
“Today the recovery begins in Burlington County. But we are not out of the woods,” said Freeholder Director Bruce Garganio. “Thousands are still without power, and we need to work expeditiously to clear our roadways for safe passage. Meantime we will do everything we can to help our friends in neighboring Ocean and Atlantic Counties. I know we still have a long way to go, but our County and local emergency management personnel and volunteers have done a great job of keeping on top of this storm.”
Moorestown schools
After school activities were closed yesterday and today due to Hurricane Sandy. No damage to school grounds have been reported, but the school district is currently suffering from power outages.
The Moorestown School District recently posted an announcement on their Facebook page.
Elementary schools are currently running on generators and access to Upper Elementary School is limited due to road closures, the post said.
A determination for school openings will be made today after 4 p.m.
