Chief Dennis Cribben is pleased to announce the retirement of Lt. Daniel Howard, who has faithfully served the citizens of Mt. Laurel for more than 25 years, and the promotion of Sgt. Judy Lynn Schiavone to the rank of Lieutenant.
Lt. Daniel Howard joined the Mt. Laurel Police Department in 1987. During his tenure he has served as a Patrol Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Services Sergeant, Unit Supervisor for the EMT Unit, Training Lieutenant, and Watch Commander.
He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2005 and most recently served in the Office of Professional Standards.
Lt. Howard was instrumental in the Police Departments accreditation process serving as the manager of the project in 2009.
He has received many commendations during his career, most notably a Combat Cross in 1991, Police Officer of the Year in 1993, and Supervisor of the Year in 2002. He retired effective Oct. 1.

Sgt. Judy Lynn Schiavone was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.
She has been assigned to the Office of Professional Standards of the Mt. Laurel Police Department. Schiavone joined the department in August of 1999 when she was assigned as an officer in the Patrol Bureau.
She was assigned to the position of Lead Officer within the Patrol Bureau in April of 2008. She was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in October of 2008 and served as a Patrol Sergeant.
Most recently, Sgt. Schiavone was assigned as the Administrative Sergeant in August 2012.
Lieutenant Schiavone also previously served as a Police EMT, Field Training Officer, Automated External Defibrillator Instructor, and Hostage Negotiator.
Lt. Schiavone was sworn into her new position during the township council meeting on Oct. 1 in the presence of her family, members of the police department, and the public.
