Broadway star to visit summer program

Curtain Call Performing Arts Center will host a Broadway star as part of the group’s summer camp program.

Arbender Robinson, currently performing in “The Lion King” on Broadway, will be coming to Burlington County to teach a master class in musical theatre to the Curtain Call campers, ages 7 to 16.

Robinson, a 15-year Broadway veteran, has been featured in “Hairspray,” “Ragtime,” “Book of Mormon,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Miss Saigon” and “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”

He is also a choreographer, has served as a dance captain in many Broadway companies and is a master teacher who is passionate about the work he does with aspiring young actors.

Anne Kessler, director of Curtain Call Performing Arts Center said: “ I am so excited to be able to bring such an accomplished theater professional to Curtain Call. As an educator, I strive to keep my students/campers engaged in the learning process, and feel it is my responsibility to inspire them to achieve their true potential.

“By bringing a guest teaching artist, such as Arbender, to my program, the campers will get a firsthand look at what it is like to study with a Broadway veteran. They will walk away from this workshop feeling accomplished and inspired — and that will translate into their performances.”

Karen Febus, mother of Giana, one of the campers, is excited about Robinson’s visit. Febus said: “The great thing about Curtain Call is that it offers our kids an opportunity to learn from industry professionals.”

Curtain Call Performing Arts Center offers voice, dance and musical theater training for the children of Burlington Country. Area professionals, many with teaching degrees, teach classes.

The program has three main goals: arts education, inspiring confidence in the children it serves, and building a strong, non-competitive community for young aspiring performers.

The group will present its summer theater productions, Disney’s “Aladdin Jr.” and “The Little Mermaid Jr.” on July 26 and July 27 at 7 p.m., with a special matinee performance on July 27 at 2 p.m.

Each performance features both shows with an intermission between and will be held at Hartford School in Mt. Laurel.

Admission is $5 and can be purchased in advance at Hartford School between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. from Monday to Friday. Tickets are also available at the door. For additional information on Curtain Call Performing Arts Center, log on to www.curtaincallperformingartscenter.com or call (856) 287–5014.
