Road work scheduled on Haddonfield-Berlin Rd. this summer
This summer, the Camden County Department of Public Works will be reconstructing a 2-mile portion of Route 561. This project will improve the flow and efficiency of motor vehicle traffic on Voorhees Township’s main thoroughfare, while making intersections more accessible and pedestrian-friendly.
The scope of the work on Route 561 will stretch from Evesham Road to the intersection of Laurel Oak Road.
Improved traffic flow, drainage and safety on county roadways are a priority for Freeholder Ian Leonard.
“It’s important for Camden County to make necessary improvements and invest into our infrastructure,” Leonard said. “I do a lot of driving throughout the county and I know this enhancement will be a significant upgrade to our roadways and for our residents.”
In conjunction with the construction, the county will be upgrading curb line accessibility for the disabled at the affected intersections throughout Voorhees. New curb cuts and concrete work will be performed to make all curbs ADA-compliant.
Over the course of the estimated 90-day project, Camden County will oversee the reconstruction of the prescribed area. At this time, engineers are finishing up the design portion of the project and putting it out to bid in the near future.
The freeholders are expected to be awarding the bid to a contractor at their June meeting and construction will start soon after.
