Voorhees Schools to see a boost in state aid
Both the Voorhees Township and Eastern Camden County Regional school districts will receive a boost in state aid this year, according to the projected state aid totals released by the New Jersey Department of Education last week.
Gov. Christie announced school aid would increase $135 million over last year’s appropriations, totaling $7.8 billion for schools across the state.
Christie said the appropriations are the largest in state education in the history of New Jersey.
“Since taking office, one of my greatest priorities has been working to ensure that every child in the state receives a quality education that will prepare them
for the demands of the 21st
century,” Christie said. “In addition to increasing overall spending on education to the highest levels in state history, we can
and will go further to implement common sense ways that will make every education dollar count.”
The Voorhees Township School District’s funding increased by more than 8 percent over last year’s figures, jumping by $412,333.
Last year, the district received $5,066,556. The district will receive $5,478,889 to include in the proposed 2012–2013 budget.
Throughout the month, Voorhees Township School Superintendent Raymond Brosel will present the 2012–13 budget across the district. The public is invited to attend any of the meetings.
The first meeting will be held on March 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Kresson School. On March 15, Brosel will present the budget at the Voorhees Middle School at 9:15 a.m. and at E.T. Hamilton at 2 p.m.
Residents are invited to learn more about the budget on March 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Osage School and on March 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Signal Hill School.
A public hearing on the budget will be held on Wednesday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the administration building, 329 Route 73.
The Eastern Camden County Regional School District’s funding increased by more than 3 percent over last year’s figures, spiking by $279,272.
Last year, the district received $8,911,870. The district will receive $9,191,142 to include in the proposed 2012–2013 budget.
With most school districts across the state opting to move school elections to November, budgets, at this point, are in infancy stages.
Budgets, regardless, will still undergo a review by the county superintendent and a public hearing will be held.
The deadline to submit a nominating petition to run for the board is now June 5.
