Cherry Hill Police catch a Grinch or two who tried to steal Christmas

On Christmas Day at 4:45 p.m., while visions of sugar plums were dancing through most people’s heads, three Grinch-like suspects arrived at the Cherry Hill Mall in a stolen sleigh (actually, a stolen car).

With ski masks, gloves and dark hoodies, and armed with landscape rocks, they busted their way into the mall and later into the Apple Store and began filling their sacks (or trash bags) with stolen merchandise totaling $35,801.00.

What they didn’t realize from the moment they exited their stolen car and put on their ski masks, was that they were under video surveillance by vigilant Cherry Hill Mall security personnel who immediately notified the Cherry Hill Police.

Arriving officers attempted to stop these individuals who led officers on a brief vehicle pursuit that ended when the suspects turned down a dead-end street.

All three fled on foot, leaving behind the stolen car and proceeds from the Burglary-Theft. One suspect was arrested immediately, while a second was arrested shortly thereafter by an alert Pennsauken Officer who was participating in the search.

Alas, the third suspect got away. Cherry Hill Detectives are continuing the investigation.

The two suspects, both 22-year-old males from Willingboro, were charged with Burglary, Theft Eluding, Receiving Stolen Property, Criminal Mischief and Conspiracy and remanded to the Camden County Correctional facility in default of $102,500.00 full cash bail.
