A man who argued a case in Evesham Township Municipal Court is not actually a licensed lawyer in this state, prosecutors say.

Demetrio S. Timban, 45, of Medford, was arrested Wednesday and charged with practicing law without a license, the Burlington County Prosecutors office said.

Timban is credentialed in New York as well as Michigan. But New York and New Jersey — as of press time — are still not the same state.

Nonetheless, Timban allegedly has handed out a card identifying himself as an attorney for The Timban Law Group in Cherry Hill. The firm has offices on Old Cuthbert Road, and specializes in immigration, according to its web page.

Timban’s card said he also worked with bankruptcy and creditor’s rights, family law, alternative dispute resolution, and real estate law, according to the prosecutors office.

Authorities also said he earned money representing a client in March and May.
