Actors in grade three to age 30 are invited to audition for the Voorhees Theatre Company’s production of “Big the Musical” on Sept. 11 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the Voorhees Middle School theater. Rehearsals begin Sept. 13.
“Big the Musical” will be performed three times, Nov. 5 and 6. This vibrant, funny and touching musical production of the 1987 hit movie starring Tom Hanks features more than 35 characters and a variety of roles for children and young adults. When frustrated adolescent Josh Baskin wishes he were “big” and wakes up the next morning a 30-year-old man, he discovers there’s much more to being an adult than he’s bargained for and learns we must all grow up at our own pace, in our own time.
Auditioners should come prepared to sing 16 bars of a Broadway-style song that demonstrates their range and ability, be dressed to dance, and be prepared to stay for the entire time. An accompanist will be available to play your sheet music, or you may bring an instrumental-only CD accompaniment. Callbacks, if necessary, will be held at the end of the afternoon. A $25 audition fee, payable by cash or check will be collected at the audition; $175 participation fee due Sept. 18. Audition forms may be found at www.voorheestheatre.org.
