Committee accepts grants for roadways

By Sean Patrick Murphy

Two Voorhees roadways will be given a facelift thanks to two sizeable state grants.

The Voorhees Township Committee accepted the grants from the state department of transportation at its July 11 meeting.

The sidewalks along Centennial Boulevard will be repaired with a $70,000 while Victor Boulevard will be repaved thanks to a $200,000 grant.

The township has received a $4,000 federal grant to pay for a police officer whose only duty is to check for drivers using seat belts in the “Click It or Ticket” campaign.

Another federal grant for $970.82 has been received to pay for police time to provide alcohol education for kids.

A yearly occurrence, the committee reconfirmed the dedicated tax rate for the municipal open space, recreation, farmland, and historic preservation trust fund. According to Township Manager Larry Spellman, that comes out to $60 a year for the average homeowner

Donna Odd was appointed violations clerk, Lindsay Clark was appointed deputy municipal court administrator, and Krsitina Rieders was appointed clerk.

The committee also voted to release the performance bond carried by Simon Plaza and accept a two-year maintenance bond.

The committee awarded a bid for the Rabinowitz Field dugout project for $60,000 to Joseph Porretta Builders. Half of that will be funded through grants and donations.
