My family has lived in Moorestown since 1972. It is a very livable, clean, well administered township and we have enjoyed every moment.
Several years ago a referendum was held regarding liquor sales in Moorestown. Unfortunately, the proponents of the amendment failed to properly inform the residents of Moorestown that the signs which reflected a bill number really involved a bill to allow liquor sales in the township. By such lack of information, the referendum failed.
As most people know, the township would benefit in the millions of dollars if liquor sales were allowed in Moorestown. In subsequent years, the township would receive licensing fees on an annual basis. At this time, the Township of Mt. Laurel benefits from liquor sales to Moorestown resident and not the Township of Moorestown. In these recessive economic times, and the high real estate taxes which the Moorestown residents bear with great resolution, the township can easily and beneficially use liquor sales licensing fees in a number of way including the reduction of real property taxes.
I hope that the proponents of the new liquor sales amendment in Moorestown commence a campaign which will properly inform Moorestown citizens of how Moorestown can benefit from safe liquor sales and not surrounding township as the present situation exists.
