Mount Laurel Township replaces two ambulances

Mount Laurel Township replaced two of its emergency medical services ambulances as part of the township’s ongoing capital improvement plan.

Mount Laurel Emergency Medical Services replaced a 1997 Freightliner, Horton ambulance with more than 160,000 miles with a newly constructed 2010 Ford E-450 Super Duty, Type III, Horton Ambulance.

This newly constructed ambulance has the latest in safety features including new emergency warning system technology and also offers better occupant crash safety construction. Additionally, a 2000 Ford E-450 Super Duty, Horton Type III, Ambulance with more than 162,000 miles was refurbished and remounted onto a new 2010 Ford E-450, Super Duty Chassis.

The newly refurbished/remounted ambulance was updated with all new state-of-the-art LED emergency warning and interior lighting systems, many new components and hardware, and the installation of side patient entry steps to match the existing ambulance fleet. The remounted/refurbished ambulance saved as much as $70,000 over the purchase of another newly constructed ambulance. The 1997 Freightliner Horton Ambulance was not cost effective to remount because a suitable production chassis was not commercially available, at the time, for remounting.

Both new ambulances are equipped with “Fleeteyes,” an automatic vehicle locating system that is monitored by Burlington County Central Communications (the 9–1–1 center) to ensure that the nearest Mount Laurel ambulance is dispatched to each 9–1–1 call to help reduce response times. The designs of both these new ambulances will achieve reduced maintenance and operating costs over their predecessors. It is anticipated that both new ambulances will service the community for 10 years or 150,000 miles before requiring replacement.

The new ambulance is numbered 3682 and has been assigned to Station 368, the Charles Kritz Building located at 1051 South Church Street and the newly refurbished/remounted ambulance is numbered 3691 and has been assigned to Station 369, the Rodger Sharpe Building located at 201 Masonville Road.
