Cherry Hill resident and president of the Voorhees Toastmasters Club Matt Goldberg represented his club at the May 14 District 38 Speech Evaluation Contest in Exton, Pa., and talked away with first-place honors.
Six division winners competed recently, with a two-to-three minute evaluation based on a five-to-seven minute “model” speech.
The evaluation contest draws upon the ability to listen closely, and after five minutes of reflection, the ability to deliver an organized mini-speech that balances praise, helpful critique and good humor.
“We practice these skills every week at our club meetings,” noted Goldberg, a writer and public speaker from Cherry Hill.
“They come in handy–not only in Toastmasters competitions, but in a variety of work and life experiences as well.”
To reach the District 38 finals, Matt had to compete in, and win, contests at the club, area and division levels.
District 38 is comprised of more than 125 corporate and community clubs in eastern Pennsylvania and southern and central New Jersey.
Goldberg, an author of two new, acclaimed humor books, is available to speak to organizations, companies and individuals in a variety of formats, and may be reached at [email protected].
