Harvey London cannot fathom why someone would do what they did to the Village Green Community Association’s clubhouse this past Saturday, May 14. The president of the board of trustees at the community said the only motivation for the individual or group that conducted the vandalism in the wee hours of the morning was “evil, pure evil.”
Around 4:26 a.m. on May 14, London received a phone call from the community’s alarm service, alerting him that four of the clubhouses smoke detectors had been triggered.
“My first though was that the clubhouse was burning down,” he said. “But what really happened was they turned loose a chemical suppressant fire extinguisher and coated it, which triggered the alarm.”
By the time London arrived at the clubhouse it was too late, the vandals were gone, but they left behind an untold amount of damage to the clubhouse and the pool. The community is still waiting on an assessment from its insurance provider, but London said that it would likely be over $10,000 to completely repair and clean up.
In the clubhouses pool area, London said several electrical sockets were knocked off of the walls, a soda machine was broken, and all of the pool furniture and several barbecues were thrown into the pool.
On one of the outside walls, London said that a message was scrawled on the structure that said “You will all die” and was followed by the number 666.
After the group finished their work at the pool, they broke a window and got into the clubhouse, he reported. In the clubhouse a fire extinguisher was emptied in the offices and hallways, ketchup was smeared on the walls, and several windows were broken.
“It was a hoot for somebody. I can’t understand such pure evil, such a destructive nature,” he said. “Mayor Randy Brown volunteered several different youth groups to come in and help us clean up. We appreciate the offer, but it will have to done by a professional.”
He said that the Evesham Township Police Department has been contacted and a report has been filed. There are no suspects in the case, but the department did find several pieces of evidence at the scene and collected them for processing.
