Five members of the Evesham Township Police Department hopped on their bikes earlier this week and reached Washington, D.C. in just two days of riding from New York City as part of the Police Unity Tour to honor fallen officers.
The five officers participated in the ride down the east coast to honor all of their fellow officers who have died in the line of duty. Also, the ride serves as a fund-raiser to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial and Museum.
The riders were sponsored by the Evesham Township Police Department and a fund-raising event that was held in the township in early March. The ride is held over several days and sees hundreds of bike riders travel from New York City to Washington D.C.
More than 1,400 riders participated in this year’s tour, representatives reported. The Unity Tour has grown into a national movement, and yesterday presented Craig W. Floyd, Chairman and CEO of the Memorial Fund with a check for over $1.5 million, the highest total raised in any prior year.
