Several local chefs came together to help brighten the lives of several residents with neurological challenges and cook them a nice meal at the same time.
Local chefs recently visited the kitchens of people with these challenges and showed them how to prepare several easy, healthy and tasty recipes.
The chefs, who are members of the South Jersey Chapter of the United States Personal Chef Association (USPCA), gave their cooking demonstrations at the Judith B. Flicker Residences in Voorhees, home to older adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and acquired brain injuries. The facility is operated by Bancroft, a leading nonprofit service provider for people with neurological disabilities.
As residents, staff members and visitors from other Bancroft programs watched, the chefs prepared a citrus-dressed salad, gazpacho and turkey meatloaf with roasted red pepper sauce. In each of six apartments, audience members enjoyed seeing the demonstrations and sampling the recipes over the course of an afternoon.
“We greatly appreciate the chefs taking time out to help the people in our programs,” said Bancroft President Toni Pergolin. “This project is a great match for us because it addresses some of Bancroft’s most important goals: helping people develop daily living skills, live a healthy lifestyle and enjoy a good quality of life.”
