Joseph John McGovern , Esquire of Moorestown. Age 51. Passed away March 14 at the Samaritan Hospice Unit, Virtua Mt. Holly. He was a native of Gloucester City.
Joe was a graduate of Gloucester City High School Class of 1977. He graduated from Cook College, New Brunswick in 1981 with a B.S. degree and from Widener University Law School with a J.D. in 1987.
Joe was of counsel for Parker McCay in Marlton where he specialized in environmental Law and he was a former partner with Blank Rome in Philadelphia. He was a licensed Attorney in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He also was a member of the New Jersey, Camden County, and Burlington County bar associations and the Pennsylvania Bar Association. He authored and published three environmental novels.
Joe was a resident of Moorestown since 1998 and was an avid runner, known around town as the Bandana Man of Moorestown. His friend’s affectionately called him “Big McGov”.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.

McGovern of Rutgers University, New Brunswick and Dear Brother of Theresa McGovern of Maple Shade, James C. McGovern Jr. of Paulsboro, Margaret McGovern of California, Roseanne McGovern of Mt. Ephraim and Daniel McGovern and wife Jane of Haddon Township.
Relatives and friends of Joseph’s family are invited to his viewing and visitation from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday evening at The Moorestown Memorial Home, located at 334 Chester Ave. There will be no public viewing Friday morning.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 42 W. Main St. Cremation will be private.
