A look at what your municipal taxes might look like

Moorestown Township Council has begun discussion of the township’s next municipal budget and it looks as if taxes may increase for the average homeowner in 2011.

According to township officials, the $23.8 million budget does not use deferred school taxes. The number represents an approximately $536,000 increase over last year. If the budget passes as is, it will result in an increase in municipal taxes of about $122 for the average assessed homeowner.

The budget remains under the two percent tax levy cap law, which does not allow the amount to be raised by taxation to increase over two percent from one year to the next.

Officials plan to hold at least three more special meetings to discuss the 2011 municipal budget.

Meetings are scheduled for:

  • March 14 at 6 p.m.
  • March 21 at 6:30 p.m.
  • March 28 at 6 p.m.
