On Feb. 26, 2011, age 90, longtime Haddonfield resident, husband of the late Margaret (nee Jones) and loving father of Margaret “Peggy” Scarano (Steven) of Barnegat, NJ. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins, and his longtime companion, Muriel Duncan and her children, Ariel, James and David and their families.
Gallagher, a 2001 Haddonfield Athletic Hall of Fame inductee for lettering in football, basketball and baseball, graduated from Haddonfield Memorial High School class of 1940. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII and went on to attend the University of Pennsylvania and graduated with a degree in Accounts & Finance from The Wharton School in 1950. Locally, he was a Charter President of the Haddonfield Y’s Men, a past president of the Haddonfield Rotary, a member of Tavistock Country Club, where he had served on the Board of Governors, and had been very active with little league.
Gallagher’s family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 7:45 p.m. at Kain-Murphy Funeral Home, 15 West End Ave, Haddonfield, NJ. Services will follow at 8 p.m. All are invited to his graveside service, Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Locustwood Cemetery, 1500 Rt. 70 W., Cherry Hill, NJ. Memorial donations may be made in Gallagher’s name to the J. Wood Platt Scholarship Fund, c/o the Golf Association of Philadelphia, 1974 Sproul Road, Suite 400, Broomall, PA 19008.
