Township softball players can sharpen their skills this winter with a series of “Winter Warm Up” clinics offered by the Moorestown Youth Softball Association. These classes are especially helpful for travel team players or any player — in grades four through 12 — who would like to try out for a travel team this coming season.
The “Winter Warm Up” clinics run from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturdays at the International Sports Complex, 600 Kresson Road, Cherry Hill. Instruction is provided by MYSA travel coaches with oversight by Alex Massa.
“Winter Warmups” are divided into two groups — Group A or Group B — with each group meeting every other week for five Saturday sessions total. The Group A schedule runs Jan. 8 & 22, Feb. 5 & 19, and March 5. The Group B schedule runs Jan. 15 & 29, Feb. 12 & 26, and March 12.
MYSA Travel League Softball tryouts will be held Sunday, Feb. 6 at 1 p.m. at the MAC Center.
In other MYSA news, MYSA Spring softball registration — for players in grades kindergarten (Tee Ball) through 12th — is also now open online and runs through Feb. 12. MYSA Recreation Softball League games begin the first week in April. Opening Day is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, April 17.
Go to the MYSA Web site www.moorestownsoftball.org and click on the top tab “2011 Online Registration” to sign up for “Winter Warmup” clinics, Spring Travel or Recreation softball.
In addition, the MYSA Web site also has information for parents, residents and other interested adults who may want to help coach, volunteer on one of the many committees, or even sponsor a team. For the protection of all involved, MYSA conducts criminal background checks on all volunteers who have direct contact with children.
The MYSA also offers paid positions as umpires for the younger-aged softball teams. There is a separate registration tab if your child, or a sibling, may want to register as a league umpire. All training is provided by MYSA.
