Prior to Thanksgiving, Haddonfield Memorial High School students participated in a school tradition called, “Spirit Week.” This program involves building both school spirit and raising money for charities. Competitions occurred between grade levels through activities such as hallway decorations, penny count, scavenger hunt, can collection, volleyball game, screaming contest, tug-a-war and the something called the “Keissling walk,” all culminating with the Spirit Week Dance.
This year, through competitions involving raising money for charities, the HMHS students raised more than $12,000 for various charity organizations and more than 13,000 canned goods that were donated to homeless shelters.
Charities that benefited included the Canuso Foundation- Sophomore Class, $5,371; Make a Wish Foundation- Senior Class, $2,555; American Cancer Society- Junior Class, $2,674; and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation- Freshmen Class, $986.
Both the activities and raising money for charities, all were counted toward bragging rights of being named “The Class Champion” during Spirit Week. This year’s winner was the Senior Class.
